Two weeks in the soil,
in solidarity.
This November, I'm returning to Palestine to Juthour — an arboretum and food forest fighting, tree by tree, to stay rooted outside Ramallah — for two weeks of soil restoration, agroforestry, and Sacred Service. I'm bringing a small group with me. This is the invitation.
What is Juthour
01 — The landJuthour — "roots" — is a Palestinian family's 200-year commitment to a degraded mountain outside Ramallah: regenerating it into a living tree museum, a nature preserve, and an ecological education centre known as Mashjar Juthour. Thirteen years of tending have already coaxed back over 100 century-old olive trees, indigenous Mediterranean flora, a five-pond water system fed by captured rainwater, and stone terraces rebuilt by hand.
The land is held as a trust, not an asset — protected by a charter that forbids its sale, its use as collateral, or its treatment as anything other than a relationship to be carried forward. In a landscape where holding land at all is contested, that commitment is itself a form of resistance.
Juthour is now in advanced partnership talks with Ramallah Municipality to formalise the site as a public nature preserve and education centre — but the on-the-ground work of regeneration is ongoing, physical, and short of hands.

Why this matters
02 — Solidarity, in practice"We plant trees whose shade we will never sit under, for people we will never meet, in a future we can only imagine. This is the work of love."
This isn't charity tourism. Juthour's early plantings faced a mortality rate near 95% — this is technical, patient soil work, carried out under occupation, done anyway. Wild boars, tree poachers, and settler encroachment on the neighbouring mountain are named risks in the family's own records, not distant abstractions.
Solidarity here looks like showing up with skilled hands, not sentiment — contributing real labour to real soil, in a place where regeneration and land defence are the same act.
What is needed are people in their genius to contribute into the enterprise of regeneration as boots on the ground.

Hugelkultur, composting, and manure amendment to rebuild fertility in Terra Rossa clay that has spent decades depleted.
Agroforestry
Planting and tending indigenous and Mediterranean species — olive, oak, hawthorn, pistachio — building the living tree museum, one tree at a time.
Regenerative infrastructure
Terrace repair, water-line extension, and green building with salvaged stone — century-scale infrastructure, built by hand.
Education & community
Contributing to Juthour's role as a hands-on classroom for Ramallah's schools, universities, and neighbours.
